How to combine scanned pages into one PDF

Image scans or PDF scans: which tool to use

Scanners and phone apps save documents in two common ways. If each page is a separate picture, such as JPG or PNG, use JPG to PDF or Image to PDF to turn them into one PDF. If each scan is already a PDF, use Merge PDF or Combine PDF. The steps are almost identical, and both let you reorder and rotate pages before you download.

Photos taken with a phone camera work well too. Use Photos to PDF for receipts, forms and notes you already have in your gallery.

Getting clean results from scans

Take or scan each page upright and in good light, and keep the pages in reading order so less rearranging is needed. If some pages come out sideways, rotate them in the page grid rather than re-scanning. Remove any blank or duplicate pages before downloading so the final document is short and easy to read.

Large, high-resolution scans use a lot of browser memory. If a batch is too big, combine it in smaller groups, or compress the result afterwards with Compress PDF.

What combining scans does not do

PDF Eye does not include OCR, so the text on a scanned page does not become searchable or selectable, and pages are not automatically straightened or cropped. The combined file looks like your scans, in the order you chose.

Important limitations

• Image text is not converted into searchable text because OCR is not included.
• JPG, PNG, and WebP images are supported by the image workflow.
• Large scans count toward the browser session limits.
